JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) series of overseas visits to countries in the East Asian region has come to an end.
The strengthening of the economic sector and the establishment of investment cooperation are the fruits of President Jokowi’s visit to the East Asian region.
Professor of International Law at the University of Indonesia, Hikmahanto Juwana, said President Jokowi’s overseas visit had many positive impacts. Especially in the national economic sector.

“First, to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and the three countries visited,” Hikmahanto continued.

Visiting three East Asian countries, President Jokowi called for investment grants of IDR 185 trillion
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited three countries in the East Asian region for about four days, namely China, Japan and South Korea (South Korea).
From the three countries, President Jokowi stole ‘memories’ in the form of cooperation and investment agreements worth around 185 trillion rupees. Here is a summary :
The first country President Jokowi visited during his visit was China. There, Jokowi met Chinese President Xi Jinping accompanied by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday (7/26/2022).
Several agreements between the two countries have been produced.
The two leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial economic cooperation for the two countries as well as for the region and the world.
“China is Indonesia’s comprehensive strategic partner. We must fill this partnership with cooperation beneficial to our country, and at the same time to the region and the world,” Jokowi said in his quoted statement. on the Setkab website, Saturday (7/30/2022).
Although the value of investment invested by China is unknown, there are seven agreements between Indonesia and China, namely;
1. Renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Synergy of the Global Maritime Axis and Belt Road Initiative
2. Memorandum of Understanding on Vaccine Development and Genomics and Research Cooperation
3. Memorandum of Understanding on Green Development
4. Maritime cooperation agreements
5. Protocol on Indonesian Pineapple Exports
6. Modalities of cooperation in the exchange of information and the repression of customs offenses
7. Action plan for cooperation in cybersecurity and development of technological capabilities.
After the visit to China, President Jokowi then held a meeting with the Japanese leaders, namely Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, on Wednesday (27/7/2022).
During the meeting which took place on Wednesday (7/27/2022), the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, one of which was the renewal of the Indonesia economic partnership. -Japan (IJEPA).
In addition, President Jokowi also met with CEOs of companies or managers of large companies.
At the meeting, the Japanese business leaders present were Toyota Motor Corp CEO Akio Toyoda, Sojitz Corp CEO Masayoshi Fujimoto, Mitsubishi Corp CEO Katsuya Nakanishi, Mitsubishi Motors Corp CEO Takao Kato, and Denso Corp CEO Koji Arima.
There is also Mitsubishi Chemical Corp CEO Jean-Marc Gilson, Toyota CEO Tsusho Ichiro Kashitani, Sharp Corp Vice President Masahiro Okitsu, Inpex Corp Vice President Kenji Kawano and Vice President of Kansai Electric Power, Matsumura Mikio. By bringing in investment commitments worth US$5.7 billion or the equivalent of Rs 85 trillion.
“I really appreciate the quality of Japanese investments. However, I also hope that Japanese investors will consider its competitiveness. So that they can compete with other investors in Indonesia,” the president said.
The President also urged CEOs to request the mobile number of Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
“If there is a problem, you can contact the Minister of Investment directly. If you can’t complete it at the Ministry of Investment, please contact me,” he added.
3. South Korea
President Jokowi’s last overseas working visit was to South Korea. He was there to meet President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Both have directly witnessed the cooperation between the Ministry of Investment / BKPM and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea to increase sustainable green investments.
Second, the Amending Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea regarding technical cooperation in the transfer and development of the state capital (IKN ).
Third, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea regarding maritime cooperation.
Before meeting South Korea’s president, Jokowi also had a meeting with the country’s CEOs.
On this occasion, Jokowi succeeded in linking investment commitments of 10 major investors amounting to 6.72 billion US dollars or the equivalent of 100.6 trillion rupees.
The 10 business leaders who attended the meeting were Posco CEO Kim Hag-dong, Lotte Chemical VP/CEO Kim Gyo-hyun, LG Corp VP/CEO. Brian Kwon, Chairman of CJ Group Sohn Kyung-Sik, Chairman of LS Group Koo Ja-Eun, VP/CEO of GS E&C Lim Byeong-yong, CEO of Samsung Electronics Roh Tae-moon, CEO of LX Holdings Roh Jin- seo, Chairman of Taekwang Park Joo-hwan, Chairman of KCC Glass Mong-ik Chung, as well as Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Indonesia Park Tae-sung.
“I have not listened to any serious complaints that may arise on the ground. But if there are any issues, please forward them to the Minister of Investment, Pak Bahlil or the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and investment, if there are any problems,” he said.
“If the two are stuck, they can’t solve it, it can be done to me, whether it’s permit-related, whether it’s immigration-related and the like,” Jokowi concluded.
